My Favorite Wild Animal: The Lynx

The lynx is my favourite animal because it was my first soft toy when I was child. It still is my favourite animal because I find that it is so cute.

The lynx is a big wild cat with a moustache and long hairs on its ears. It weighs from ten to thirty kilos and is about forty-five to seventy-five centimeters high. In its fur, there are light brown and dark brown patches.

The lynx is carnivorous and can run very fast to catch its food: it eats mainly deers, chamois, mouflons and rabbits.

The lynx lives in the Jura mountains and it is very big.

The lynx has a highly sensitive sense of touch, a powerful sense of smell, and a very precise and very light-sensitive sight in dark environments. That is why in French when someone has very good eyesight, we say he has the eyes of a lynx.

The young lynx lives with its parents.

The lynx is a very solitary feline and extremely discreet, it is active mainly at dawn and dusk. It sleeps a lot during the day, and it hunts during the night.

The lynx does not attack human beings because it is afraid of us.

A law must be voted to protect animal species. In France, we have hunting seasons and many of these wild animals get shot. I think it would be necessary to reserve more space for them where humans cannot go to disturb.

I also believe it is important to pollute less because pollution kills all kinds of animals and at the end, us too. We need to stop cutting down trees because the forests we have are home to more animals than we can imagine. Animals can teach us a lot of things about our Earth and how to live in harmony.

Near where I live, in the Jura region, is a care center for wild animals called the Athenas Center. It takes care of many animal species that are hurt or too young to live on their own, for example, lynx, hare, chamois, chevreuil, ram, deer, various bird and wild bear. I would like to visit it and see how they treat these different animals because I love wildlife.
