"Our World - An Eco-Friendly Place" - Essay by Meryam Sayyeda

Our world an ecofriendly place

Our World - An Eco-Friendly Place

Hi my name is Meryam and I love my world. After all it is our only world. There are so many places to see and many hobbies to develop. I recently developed a love for climbing trees and hiking on mountains. From my perspective nature is beautiful.

However, people don’t understand the beauty of nature. They cut down forests to make a city or a new business company settle there and have their workplace there. They cut down forest to produce paper. One thing that make me happy is that some of these forests or woodlands are reforested, but some are not. These horrible people that cut down forest and don’t replant them, don’t know that they are destroying the world’s lungs.

We humans should rely on these green places. They give us oxygen to breathe. But no. They cut down forests just to add a stock of 12-storey buildings. We in school need paper but if we reuse it we might be saving some. We don’t just throw paper. If there is spare, we use it as scrap: drawing sketches during art, writing mini tests down, or even, making rough posters to get a visual on what they might look like. This saves our trees from being cut more.

It’s not just our lives being affected the animals lives are at stake to. Habitats are being destroyed. Most of us know about Orangutans, but do we know the condition they are living in. They are extremely endangered and rare due to habitat loss. DEFORESTATION is the cause. Soon these giant apes will be no more known than extinct.

Our school takes part in the Eco School program and has had an award a few years ago. We have a plant in our class to take care of. We have had an unplugged day where smart TV screens are off. The teachers mainly use the whiteboards and their laptop. Just turning off one big TV might be saving a little energy, but imagine 12 of these screens being shut down. That would save a lot of energy. Fossil fuels will burn less.

People have great ideas and if they raise their voice a little it can change the world. I am joining as a candidate to be part of the eco warrior team in our school to help the environment and make it a better place. I imagine a world where the sky is clear, every house has solar panels on and there are noise-free cars. People will be able to breathe freely without trouble. No smoke causing coughing every now and then.

This is my dream that I would like to become true. Before I finish, I would like to say my thanks to the Kratt brothers on the work they did to help me learn more about nature and animals.

"Once destroyed, nature's beauty cannot be repurchased at any price." Ansel Adams

"You have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." Harriet Tubman
