Two Sets of Eyes - Essay by Arini Kazi

I see the world with two different eyes. Present and future. I can see the future as your heart, filling up with hope. Your dream job or career is coming to life. Now I see myself writing stories and enjoying my childhood. You may see your future and present differently but I don’t. Every pair of eyes work differently, just like mine.
Now I see my dreams in the centre of my heart, just waiting to burst out. And I know my future will be bright with hope. But now I’m in my present, waiting for our future to bloom. I’m in my room, scribbling in a notebook my stories and my dreams of being an author.
All the possibilities that could happen to me but let's focus on my present for now. I absolutely love writing. It’s my passion. Actually it’s my dream. As you already know I want to be an author. I spent my time as a little kid coming up with different scenarios.
Now look at me! I’m writing stories and mini novels for competitions, tests, and for my own will. Here in Dubbo, life doesn’t bring much exciting news. Dubbo sometimes makes my petals wilt. All of my pages are blank. There might be some sort of party but that's all. Nothing here makes my stem shine brighter than the sun. I start to lose interest in it all. Even my dreams.
Where my parents and religion come from, is where my joy started to bloom. My roots dig deeper and deeper into story writing everyday but it wasn’t like that before. The first thing I used to do when I was young was sit on the lounge all day doing nothing. It was not until the school holidays jumped out of its hole. We went to my parents' home country. Bangladesh.
The moment I stepped out of the airport, my mind was about to explode. The delicate cracks on the dusty roads, the dim traffic lights, the stray dogs and kittens, and so much more! I had to write it down. The moment I got to my grandma’s place, I stormed into the elevator, drove up the stairs, and burst open the door.
I opened my suitcase, grabbed my notebook and pencil. The rhythm of my pencil made my flower bud bloom into one beautiful dream. Not long after that, I found out that the love of stories had been in my family for years. This made me determined to make my petals swim though the wind, until it passed all the limits. It was the generation for authors and it still is. It will be so forever. Long after I’m gone.
My two eyes will glide through the pages of your life now and our life in the future. All your adventures will be written down in a book, the world will be seeing this through my two sets of eyes.
